At the moment, the instructions are pretty platform agnostic, and
intentionally so. If I were going to include platform specific stuff,
I'd ideally want specific instructions for the Mac and Windows manual
installs as well.

Can I suggest a wiki document? Then if someone wants to do Mac specific
instructions as well I can look at including all of them.
