Thanks for the advice guys.

As it turns out, I charged up the new batteries overnight in an external
charger. Once I put the charged up batteries in the Recorder, all was good.

Was the problem just that the batteries were completely wiped out? I had
thought that maybe the Archos charging adapter was fritzed, but it seems to
be working normally now.

Anyway, thanks for the quick responses.
