Subject: ROMbox on the FM

ROMbox on the FM

Hello,

I'm running ROMbox on my FM recorder!
So, now everybody who can flash has the alternative to use ROMbox.
(See http://rockbox.haxx.se/twiki/bin/view/Main/RomBox if you don't know
what I'm talking about.)

This was a problem so far, because the Archos software for the FM is larger
and leaves not enough room for an uncompressed Rockbox image.
But you can do it, by "downflashing" the FM into a V2 recorder. For Rockbox
users this is no disadvantage, since Rockbox is identical for FM and V2, the
tuner is auto-detected at runtime. The only drawback would be that there is
no radio in the builtin Archos software, if you should F1-start into it.

How to do it:
Even more simple than I thought, no special files needed, just use my V2
package for initial flashing, instead of the FM one:
http://joerg.hohensohn.bei.t-online.de/archos/flash/flash_v2.zip

The normal instructions apply, use the full set including the provided
Rockbox v2.2 and the .rocks. When flashed, upgrade to the V2 ROMbox. For any
future Rockbox downloads, use the V2 recorder files, because this is what
you now have.

In case you want to revert, use the FM package for initial flashing again.

Happy ROMboxing,
Jörg
