Replying to myself:

If you use binutils older than 2.15 [1] and most preferably gcc 3.3.1 [2], you
should be able to build your own rombox from CVS if you just apply my little
patch. You'll need the modified uclpack sources that support --none [3].

Patch:

         http://daniel.haxx.se/makefile.patch

[1] = sh-elf-ld from binutils 2.15 doesn't like the current firmware/rom.lds
       file for linking. Linus did a fix for the app.lds before for this very
       same case so I'm hoping he can join in and help us here!

[2] = Jens' tests have proved this particular version to generate the smallest
       output and thus most suitable for Rombox.

[3] = Jörg's fixed version (based on the uclpack from ucl-1.01) is available
       here: http://rockbox.haxx.se/twiki/pub/Main/RomBox/uclpack.c

I'm interested in feedback.
