RE: Drive Conks Out...

Hi John, sounds likely, as I had a similar problem when I forgot to
put one of the bats in the recorder V1` that I had. It worked
occasionally for a little while, but died afterwards. The way to test
it might be to try running it on mains for a while, presumably there's
a switchable mains socket in it, so that when that's plugged in the
bats are disconnected. This would presumably happen when the charge
is complete. Therefore I'd think that the unit should work OK on
mains even with one of the batteries disconnected.

HTH,

Rob

Subject: Drive Conks Out...

I've got an FM Recorder which I got an electronics friend to modify
into an
80GB FM Recorder. For a day or two it worked well, but now it conks
out
after a few minutes of playing or even on start up. At first I thought
it
was the new Travel Star 80GB drive itself but now I think I know.

I charged it using the Archos firmware but it still only showed 60%
charge
after several hours of charging. Isn't there a double battery inside?
I
think one of the connections to just one of the batteries got
disturbed
during the modification and so when the FM Recorder needs full power
when
accessing the drive it fails and switches off. I'm hoping this is the
case
as it would be very easy to fix. I noticed that if the FM Recorder has
been
moved or gently shaken that the problem sometimes goes a way for a
while.

Has anyone else had experience of this kind of behaviour?

Regards

John
