If the file option was set to "spell" or "number" then the rockbox would at least say something when it was turned on. Any VI user would download and install the voice file at the same time as they installed rockbox. We now have a resolution at least, my box is speaking, with the voice I loaded last, which is entirely logical. I had to wait until someone with sight could sort the menus for me, which was interesting, I think it had set to German, (Spiel) for play, however Afrikaans would have been the same word I think. Christi loves me again!. I thought it's important to have talking menus right away when the voice file is in place. For the standard installation, there is no voice file, so not bugging "regular" users. When the menus don't talk, you have no file for your language, or it is disabled. For the first, a file voice spelling default won't help you either. > What do the other blinkies feel?
