You're still using the Archos A/D convertor,
and it's still unisolated crap.
It picks up the drive spin up,
and you can hear the display when it's on.

You can minimize this by running the Archos input volume
all the way down and boosting the level externally,
or you can beat this completely by using an external A/D
and going in S/PDIF.

I'm using a Denecke AD20 (Zephiro Inbox)
with a Rode stereo mike for nature field recordings
and they're coming out lovely.
