Subject: procedure change for first flashing

procedure change for first flashing

Beginners had endless confusion with this...

I have now changed the files in my webspace, the ones for first flashing.
In the past, they included a full copy of Rockbox (including plugins), v2.2
since that was released. When 2.3 and Ondio came out, many first time users
got confused because they had 2.2 after flashing, not talking to blind
people as a side effect.

Now it comes without Rockbox. The firmware files are stripped down, contain
just the boot loader and the Archos "safety" image. The 2nd half is left
free, so the user can flash whatever .ucl to the box. If this is not done,
the box will behave very similar to unflashed: Archos starts, then loads
Rockbox from disk, if present.

I hope this has the benefit of
1) me not having to update the images
2) showing clearly if no Rockbox is flashed yet
3) leaving the initial version up to the user

The files now additionally contain the Archos firmware in .ucl format, in
case you want that in the 2nd half as well. (To make it appear like
original.)

I have updated the wiki pages accordingly:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/FlashingRockbox
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/BlindFlashing

If you have already flashed, you can ignore this message.

Greetings,
Jörg
