that plastic sheet (general comments on HD replacement)

Man, you can't stress enough how finickity it is to get those blue bumpers
back on after a HDD upgrade!

I was in such a rush I left my plastic sheet off. Played ok for one day but
I just re-disassembled it to put it back in.

Kind had me wondering why there are *four* touchpads under the 3 buttons of
a recorder screen. (the how-to-take-apart-an-archos texts could maybe
stress that you DO NOT HAVE TO take off the front plate just to do a disk
upgrade, because if you do, those buttons are going to fly all over the
place..)

oh, sweet sweet joy of 60Gb Fujitsu drive madness..

BTW, it doesn't seem to matter if you format the disk without LBA. Is that
right? I used NetBSD newfs_msdos to make a FAT 32, it seems to work ok thus
far but I'm only consuming 23Gb so far. It ate about 2GB in overhead
formatting 60Gb down to a useable 58Gb partition.

Also, I didn't use a PC to set any of the on-disk options. Am I right in
thinking Rockbox sets them into the 'rockbox optimal' form anyway?

cheers, and thanks for the doccos to help with the upgrade!
