Subject: Music collection: 40 GB+, iRiver: 20 GB. Solution?
I had an Archos JBR upgraded to 40 GB that went dead on me some
while ago, but I of course had a backup of the contents. I decided to
get myself an iRiver to stay in the Rockbox sphere ( I've loved for
three years now). My financial situation didn't allow me to get a
bigger iRiver than the iHP-120, which leaves me with a lot of stuff
that don't fit in.
All MP3-organizers (and since Im a Mac OS X person, this is limited
to iTunes and a few others) are built on the fact that all music
organized fit on your Mp3-player. All synchronizing functions (in
iTunes or apps made for sync only) between a folder on your HD and
your MP3-player are based on the same assumption.
What I want is a function where you could set the priority of files,
for example, priority 1 means - Always mirror on MP3-player, priority
2 means - Rotate these files if there is space, priority 3 mirror if
there is space.
You get my idea? What Im after is a way to organize everything and
still be able to control what ends up on the iRiver. Best would be if
iTunes (or some other synch app) would have this feature, but a set
of bash scripts would do. It's a pain to do this manually. Best thing
would be if I knew all my priority 1 songs were always with me, and
priority 2 songs would rotate randomly so that I didnt always know
what was there...
Any ideas, suggestions on software or other solutions? I think this
problem will be more and more common since peoples music collections
tend to grow and still they dont want to/cant afford to upgrade
MP3-players all the time...
