Because the PM can take, at most, 8 gigabytes of extra memory at an extra cost, over and above the PM's price, of $600 or so. The Archos can hold 20 gigabytes of information at least, and the cost is $200. There's no comparison of cost to storage space between using files on the PM and using files on the Archos through the PM. In particular, the 3000 and 6000 models have USB host and support USB MSD.
