Although it really could be integrated easily it would be quite
pointless as the clip detection on the archos is crap. This is due to
the peak meter hardware in the micronas chip. It is very unreliable and
misses many peaks. Thus slight clips remain undetected. When you
encounter clips that are so heavy that even the peak meter can detect it
you'd hear the distortion anyway.

This restriction applies to the archos hardware only. With the iriver
rockbox has total control over each single sample and isn't bound to use
crappy hardware peak meters for clip detection.
