Yes. Playing a firmware will load it to RAM and start it. Then the flash is
idle and can be reprogrammed. It is part of the recommended flash update
procedure anyway, to first execute the new firmware before flashing it.
Resolves plugin compatibility issues and gives some confidence that the new
firmware works.

But I doubt your missing voice problem has anything to do with the flash.

Resetting to factory defaults also rules out another possible cause: if your
playlist and dir buffer settings are very large, the remaining memory
becomes too small for the voice file.

Are you 100% sure the voice file is in place?
