Well I appeared to have solved my problem. I needed to have XP detect the
com ports on this old machine. Note that they were not called USB or
Universal Serial Bus but Com ports. That's what confused me I guess.

Screen readers can read dialog boxes, warning messages, list views etc. The
technology uses video intercetp to do this. Don't ask me how but it works.
Thanks for all the help with this problem.
