Then with that in mind, where do I go on the net to download actual mp3
files? Most legal sites now only have downloads in the wma format. Or
is there a way to convert between the formats?

No, flash chips on =SOME= archos units mean that you can have 4 second
boot
time, not 15 seconds.

The battery contacts are the dodgy thing with these units - its not
frequent, but it is common - it is also such a trivial job that any (in
fairness, sighted) person could do with very very limited knowledge of a

soldering iron.

No. It is theoretically possile - but was never, and is now (given
relative obseletion) unlikely ever to be done.
