Subject: What player should I buy?

What player should I buy?

From: randy knapp <rlknapp_at_sbcglobal.net>
Date: Fri, 13 May 2005 19:03:48 -0400

I am new to this list and am seeking some advice regarding what player to
buy. It seems that the players listed on the web site are discontinued or
are being discontinued. What current players from Archos, Iriver, or
another manufacturer can run the rock box software? Thanks in advance for
your help.

Randy L. Knapp

On the other hand, nothing is stopping the devs from doing this either.
I wonder if someone mentioning "I am one of the developers of the
excellent Rockbox firmware" in their auction would raise the price?

With open source, you should never release anything that you'd be upset
if someone else sells. Regardless of what the license says, if you make
the source available, someone, somewhere, will make a buck off of it-
whether they tell you to your face or not.

I learned this lesson with an arcade emulator for the Palm that I wrote.
A software publisher contacted me about making changes to it. They
pretty much told me that they could just hire someone else to make the
changes to it, but they wanted to "give me a shot". They of course
didn't want to pay anything to have it done, so nothing got done. Oh
well. Open source is great, but if you're worried about someone making
money with it, you'd better just plan to be ahead of them.

my opinions, of course.

I mean, can i run a power lead into it as an alternative to using the
batteries?

Get a memory based player...not a hard drive based player for the gym. You
will want something small...not the Archos Jukebox.

One day I will. I got about 20 Studio and a few Recorder "barebones" from
Ebay, waiting to be refurbished with harddisk, batteries and wall-wart. Any
takers? Only my limited time stops me from selling wholesale.

I'm not upset. Actually, rather pleased to see an impact of my doing.

LOL! :)
If you don't mind, open your room's window I'll throw the player and let's
see if it arrives straight into your room (super-LOL!)

You could always have an agent sell them for you...
I wish someone would sell 8MB boards, or even whole units. I'd love to
get the extra battery life, although my new batteries doubled what I was
getting before.

I have the Recorder 20.
I know how to take off the side rounded piece to expose the batteries.
Once I've done that, do I have to remove one of the rubber bumpers, or what
do I do to allow the batteries to be taken out?
With just the rounded piece taken off, if I try to take out the batteries by
pulling from the center where they touch, it seems like I'd have to
dangerously force them out.
Thanks!!
