The speed is mostly determined by the card. USB 1.1 runs at 12
MBit/s and MMC itself can do 20 MBit/s so using an USB 2.0 card
reader will roughly double the speed. I'd still recomment using
one for larger capacity cards like 1 GB, since these card
readers are really cheap.
