This is what I had in mind, only using the "car mode" with a switched power
cord to the power supply.
I don't know if the "car mode" works this way or not.

Just add an external switch/button that you have to hold pressed while
awake,
when you doze off you release it and the "tape" stops - or keeps you awake
with a little of the "eletricity" stuff :-)
