My iriver paniced with mount: -71 after I rapidly removed and inserted
the usb cable (this was on the daily build from 20050901, I think). I
had to locate the hardware reset button, which on the iriver is next
to the usb socket. I'm not clear about what hardware you have, but it
probably has a reset button.
