In one word: Yes.

Without mentioning any names or to put preasure on anyone, there have been
experimental work started on this and I am personally considering buying an
iPod soon for joining this effort.

Personally, I want to see Rockbox ported to every single player brand and
model in existance. Without caring if they "deserve" it or not.
