We've been using a stereo Sony mic for our sound-seeing...
It really works quite well.

As with anything, it's 4 parts technical and 6 parts technique.
If you scream into any mic or point it into the wind... <g>

If you listen to the current edition of the podcast, you'll hear it in action.
Well, any episode for that matter.
