I was wondering which >players/recorders are more accessible with Rockbox and maybe which ones I >should avoid for this purpose. Once I get one, or if I do get one, is it >very difficult to install Rockbox? rockbox.org - line 1: "Rockbox is an Open Source replacement firmware for the Archos Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2 and Ondio MP3 players." It also supports a couple of the iriver platforms namely 100 and 300 series players (not the H10 ...yet) ...also work has just started on an iPod port - don't hold your breath. I guess: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/BlindFAQ would be worth a read for you. The only unit which cannot have a larger HDD in it is the hp100 which has a single platter drive to make it smaller. The others will take a 100MB laptop drive quite happily - pick one with low power consumption - RPM is utterly irrelevant. On the Archos, installation is as simple as copying over some files - As a blind user you will also need to get a voice pack and set that up too - I can only guess it is outlined by blind people for blind people in the above mentioned blind-faq :) Good luck, Bluechip Received on 2005-11-12 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
