Hi Jonathan,

I'm glad you got your new baby working! Recently, I thought my toy had
kicked the bucket to but these guys on the list have lots of smarts to
share. Now I'm up and running with rockbox and good old Charles once again.
 keep on rock'n with rockbox...rocker

Subject: A Dead h140

Hi all, I really hope someone can offer me some advice as I'm
about to embark on a 12 hour flight where I was going to use my
h-140 and frankly am feeling rather sick over what's's just
happened.

This morning I powered on my h-140 running Rockbox, and could
hear no speech. I'm a blind person so this is my only form of
interaction with the device. I later discovered that the problem
simply related to my noise canceling headphones, but before I
discovered this, I'd done some damage. I have connected the
h-140 to my PC to see if it would show up as a drive. It did,
and because I had substantially reorganised my music collection,
I deleted a few m3u and bookmark files that I thought might be
causing my lack of speech, since I had resume playback on
start-up selected.

Now, sadly, I appear to have really fried things, because I can
no longer use the H-140 as a drive, Windows simply doesn't see
it. I asked a sighted person to tell me what happens when the
unit is powered on. He said that the Rockbox logo comes up and
eventually you can see my list of folders and files. However,
pressing any key to navigate or try and play does nothing. It
looks like the unit is frozen solid

My dilemma is that I would like to do a clean Rockbox
installation, but now can't because the machine appears to be
locking up immediately at power on. I thought I remember reading
somewhere that you could hold the record button down to get back
to the original Iriver firmware but this doesn't seem to be
working for me. Is there any magic key sequence that will get me
into some position where I can fix this, as right now I'm scared
I've destroyed the machine.

Thanks for any help.

Jonathan
