No - you should be able to install any firmware (maybe except for the
US version) without problems. I have. The language always seemed to be
in English (or perhaps whatever it had been previously set to),
although when I moved to 1.29, the settings menus were in korean. This
is easily changed, though there are parallels with being blind here :)

Anyway: key sequence to install the firmware (after the H300.hex file
has been copied into the root dir):
1 - Press and hold the NAVI key (big one in the middle) for about 2
seconds to be safe
2 - Press the NAVI key again - just a quick press this time
3 - Press the down key four times
4 - Press the NAVI key once
5 - Press the left key once
6 - Press the NAVI key once
7 - Pray for a minute or so.

For those in a different language who want to change it:
1 - Press and hold the NAVI key (big one in the middle) for about 2
seconds to be safe
2 - Press the NAVI key again - just a quick press this time
3 - Press the down key once
4 - Press the NAVI key once
5 - Select the language - Korean to English is 14 up presses, Japanese
to English is 13 up presses
6 - Press the NAVI key

Though I'm guessing the lanuage of the iriver firmware wouldn't make
much difference to blind users? The language of the iriver firmware
won't affect the language of rockbox.

And as for the EU thing - I think that relates to EU regulations on
music devices having to put a certain output limit. ipods sold in
europe have this too. See
