Subject: Iriver H-120 problems

Iriver H-120 problems

From: Glenn at home <GlennErvin_at_cableone.net>
Date: Tue, 3 Jan 2006 12:23:00 -0600

Here is a description of a problem a friend is having with his IHP-120.
I suggested that he either update the RockBox, or set it to default
settings.
I will ask him to hit the re-set button, that might help.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks much, and if you wish to e-mail him, his address is below.

Here is a description of what is going on. I would have ran the updates
but without the unit coming on it will not recognize the drive. I also
tried holding the a/b switch with no luck.

Ran the unit when I first got it until it ran down. Charged it up over
night. Was listening to a book and put it on pause and when I went to
unpause it, the unit would not come on.
Tried charging it up some more but didn't do any good.
Checked it the next morning and still would not come on. Pulled the
adapter plug because I figured the charge wasn't the problem. The next
day just for curiosity, I plugged the adapter back into the unit and
pressed the on button. The unit came on. Listen to it for about 20
minutes when I had to put it on pause. Wouldn't come back and that was a
day ago. I charged it up over night again but the unit still will not
come on. I will update the unit with the new build when I can get it
running again. Any help would be appreciated.

It never hurts to update to the latest build, and if it is a bug, it
will be
worked out by now.
So go ahead and use the installer, and select the "bleeding edge build".

The A/B switch is the record button on the left.

I'm not sure the battery is the problem. I had charged the unit up over
night and it should have had a good charge. After emailing you I plugged
the unit up to the adapter and pressed the on button and it came on. I
let it charge for a little and then went to listen to a book again.
After pressing pause a couple times it is back to the same thing. It
will not come on again.
What button is the a/b switch? I will try that and see what happens. In
the mean time I would welcome any suggestions. You don't think the
rockbox software is messing up anything do you?

Tony,
Someone on the list just had this problem with an iRiver, and someone
else
suggested some information about the fact that the iRiver models don't
like
to completely run out of power.
He gave a link to a more technical explanation, and if you want it, let
me
know.
But basically, you only need to charge it for a few extra hours to fix
it.
You might try also booting to the original firmware by holding the a/b
switch while plugging it in, or rather, try holding the a/b + the on
switch
while plugging it in, if first a long charge does not fix it.
And if all that does not work, just compose a detailed description of
the
situation, and I'll post it for you on the list.

I hope you can help. Yesterday I was listening to a book on the Iriver
and went to pause it for a minute. When I went to start playing again,
the unit wouldn't do anything. It would not come on or go off or
anything. I tried plugging the adapter up to it thinking it might b the
battery but no luck. I also can't get any drive letter when I plug the
upb cord up to it.
It acts is if it is not getting any power. Any suggestions?
