Hi,

if rockbox would be installed you would not need any ipod-updates for
ipod-flaws anymore. rockbox as well provides new features from time to
time.

I believe that even if rockbox is installed, you still can switch back
to the original software, and in that case, you should be able to
apply new apple software as well.
