That page doesn't say that those were the only ones to be installed.

Possibly. But you will at least know that you do have the required packages.

Yes, and that's what causing us problems, with missing header files,
lack of SDL, no debugger etc.

Yes, and that daily input is "I can't compile the simulator", and "I get
complaints about missing header files" etc.
