I never had that with my archos, but with my h340 in the beginning.
Absolutely unreproduceable, surprisingly loud, quite scary.

I was hoping for a while it had to do with a hardware
misconfiguration. I don't know if there is a way to initialize a "pop"
on the microphone by mistake.

To describe the sound: It ever reminded me of the worst sounds I ever
heard of a hard disk. A bit like if two very expensive glasses of wine
touch each other by mistake (with fluid it it, modifying the sound).
