iRiver H140 won't boot - how to reflash?

Hi,

I've managed to toast my H140, seemingly with a dodgy install of the rockbox
flash firmware. It worked initially, now it's in a state where no button
will bring up any signs of life. The screen backlight stays off, nothing
appears on the screen. The HD doesn't spin up. Only the green power/charge
light works, and that turns itself off when fully charged.

When I plug in USB the unit doesn't appear as a drive - nothing happens
since I can't get the thing to start up anyway.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

BDM wiggler suggested seems intensely expensive for what it appears to be
and the instructions aren't too clear. So, my questions are :

1) Does anyone offer a service for reflashing H1x0s to standard firmware for
a reasonable fee? (UK/Europe preferred, but if necessary will send
elsewhere)
2) Is reflashing invasive? Does the BDM port solder or clip on?
3) Is there a cheap BDM wiggler (sub the extortionate $199 for the one on
the wiki) which will actually work? Wiring diagram and software would
suffice.

Annoying thing is I've had previous rockboxes working fine, I just gave up
with them because of lack of true support for the remote. Now it's here I've
tried it and I've got a pricey brick :-)

Any suggestions?
