Hi Rob, thank you very much for the detailed info.
I was not aware that iriver h340 works with rockbox in battery mode only,
but at least I'm happy that this proves that rockbox is indeed installed.
Concerning speech, I did install english.voice in .rockbox\langs directory.
After power-on, I press twice the a-b button, but still no speech.
Now, I would like to ask about the h33.hex file, maybe there lies my
problem.
In the daily builds of the rockbox website,
I found 2 zip files for the h340 firmware.
One is h300(eu)-v129.zip and the other is h300_v130(eu).zip.
Thinking that 130 is the later firmware, I took the h300.hex file from the
second one.
May be I should take the first one? If yes, is it possible to do this?

  Hi Rafi, I can help with some of that. I assume it's being worked on, but
the bug where rockbox only works on batteries on the H340 is I think being
worked on, it's been discussed before. It's a known issue, and you've not
done the installation wrong. That in itself proves that the rockbox
software is running.

  Re the speech issue, normally the speech does work automatically. Is the
English.voice file in the .langs directory? Within the menus, (obviously
you'll need sighted help), you need to go to "General settings", "voice",
then "voice menus"

    Hi, I'm new on this list so I apologize in advance if my questions were
already discussed in the past.
    In addition, I'm a blind person, so detailed description of buttons and
menus, if needed, will be most appreciated.
    I upgraded iriver h340 firmware and installed rockbox according to the
instructions given.
    I now have 2 problems which cause me to suspect if everything is indeed
correct with the installation.
    1. I can power on the unit only when working with the battery, but
neither when connected to the electricity by it's own nor sitting on the
cradle which is connected to the electricity.
    Why does this happen and is there any solution for this?
    2. I also installed the english.voice file in langs directlry within
.rockbox.
    I understand that the voice may be activated by pressing the a-b button
(the bottom right one) while entering the rockbox menu.
    If this is correct, then mine does not work. What should I do in this
case?
    3. Generally, how can I know that rockbox is indeed installed? if
sighted assistance is needed, what should this sighted person see on the
screen?
