Rockbox can play PCM WAV on archoses right now (on Recorder V1, V2, FM Recorder and the Ondios). The Player/Studio won't be able to play wav. WAV playback is just not yet integrated into the core, but possible via a plugin. This plugin supports all standard sample rates (8/11.025/12/16/22.05/24/32/44.1/48 kHz) 16 bit mono and stereo. When wav playback is going to be integrated into the core, support will be extended to also play 8 bit wav, and aiff with the same range as wav. Most probably simple compression schemes like ADPCM will also be supported. Another interesting area will be mod playback. The archoses should be capable of playing at least the standard 4 channel mods (Soundtracker/Noisetracker/Protracker/Startrekker, MED) and perhaps also some 8 channel formats.
