RE: Rockbox voices with Ipod.

Hi list.
I've downloaded Mary and put it on my ipod.
The installation was quite easy however, I've noticed a significant
difference now its on there.

The voice I had previous to this was far too fast for me. This is why I
replaced it with mary.

When I originally turned my ipod on, I had a menue with headings like:
General, Voice, playlist ETC.
Now I get an odd list with things like: Shuffle, play selected file, ETC.
The voice doesn't react as well as the original one did.

So, any ideas what has gone wrong or is mary not an ideal voice for the
ipod.
I actually wanted Crystal but couldn't find a zip file for her.

Thanks.

Hi Denis, have a look on ebay, any 2.5 inch laptop replacement drive will do
the trick. You'll probably struggle to get a new drive smaller than 20GB
though. Fugitsu, IBM/Hitachi travelstar, and Toshiba drives have all been
successfully used as replacements/upgrades. Generally speaking 4200 spin
speed will do the job, and will conserve batteries, however the new Western
Digital 2.5 inch drives claim that their battery consumption on their 5400
RPM drives is the equivalent of a 4200. A 5200 will definitely make the
unit boot faster, though the effect of putting rockbox into flash will be
greater still. Spin speed doesn't generally matter too much, as it spins up
whilst your music is playing anyway.

Hope that helps,

Rob

I think I have v2 of a jbr15.. Big fat rounded corners.

The other day my hard drive wouldn't quite spin up, the it did, then it mad
an awful clanking sound, then no sound. Now, no sounds at all, and seem to
not spin up.

Bad drive, I assume.

Any pointers on how to replace, and what low cost drive to use? Is there a
FAQ on this I'm missing?

Another 15-20gb drive is plenty big enough for me, so any pointers most
welcome!

Dear Rockers,
Does anione of you have a actual german voice file?
I use a file which a very friendly and kind list member gave to me. I am
very happy with it and it is enough for me, but last weekend I helped a
blind person to make its Iaudio speeky. The file speeks to fast for this
person because she speeaks germen not so well and she is not the youngerst
one.
I will be very happy if someone of you could help me with a little slower
Germen Voice File.
Best Regards
Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,
I just built another German voice file with Eloquence at 250 wpm.
However, I notice that some of the words, such as the Deutsch for
"battery capacity", are being spelt out. I think you pointed out some
problems with the previous language file before; this is probably the
same issue. It seems that despite the German speech engine, some of the
characters are not being spoken correctly.
I have nevertheless uploaded it:
http://www.jantrid.net/misc_files/deutsch.voice
I think I might pull down the voice file I previously built, as this is
not particularly nice. Please also note that this slower voice file is
too big to fit in memory on an Archos unit.
You might also try a voice file built by someone else with a different
speech engine:
