RE: DAB and MP3 players.

Hi Rob and All,
Actually I have a Pure Pocket DAB 3000 which has the facility to use SD
cards for recording and playback. Quality is particularly good.

As for the comment about pressing the middle button on the Ipod briefly to
get back to file list, the problem is that the song continues playing so
the MP3 clips don't speak.

We (I) decided that, until we were sure how the charging hardware
worked, it was better to let the iriver firmware do the charging. This
is why the bootloader starts the iriver firmware when you insert the
charger.

Now we know how it works, so it's only a matter of updating the bootloader.

Hi list,
Now I've managed to sort ou MP3 clip I am delighted. However, I have a
query.
When I turn my ipod on, its silent until I press the top button when I
get the usual main menu. If I press it again
 Then its silent.
So, what I have to do is go into General and select MP3 clips again for
both files and Directories. So, I'm probably not saving this properly.
I have to say I'm delighted with the Ipod although you have to be a bit
agile with your fingers as a blind person to select the correct menu item.

Thanks list.

Hi Maurice, When you select any item in a menu, press the select,
(middle) to confirm the setting, and it should, (not used an ipod
though) retain the selections.

Just press the middle button. Don't hold it down - just give it a quick
press.. it will take you to the file browser straight away!

Well, imho, DAB is not that great .. in practice it's just low (~128kbps)
bitrate mpeg2 audio. But combining a dab receiver with a digital audio
player makes sense (it wouldn't even be that expensive, I would have
thought..)

Hi, the situation is that they're alrady available. Perstel, Pure
digital Morphy Richards and Sanyo all make these units in the
UK. The pure is about the only unit that'll allow you to record from
the DAB to the MP3 player, via SD card. I agree with Dave re the
quality of DAB, and would add that within 5 years it's likely that
DAB won't be the predominant, and certainly won't be the only digital
radio format. L-band and DRM, (digital AM) will both be available
widely by then.

Great. Do you have a date set when we can expect a new bootloader?

Actually, I did think of one reason. Currently, if you disconnect the
charger, because the main Rockbox application is loaded, it will not
power off until idle timeout, so you have to disconnect and then power
off. The charging screen ensures that once the user has shut Rockbox
down, disconnecting from the charger will power off the hardware
immediately. This seems a minor detail, but having to turn the unit off
once disconnecting from the charger is a bit of a nuisance, given that
the charging screen has already been implemented (although I guess it
could be difficult to use this code in this case; I am not sure).

The power drain's been solved? When? I still don't see much difference on
my h340's power consumption. How long should the battery be lasting now?

"How long should the battery be lasting" is a rather subjective
question. It depends on your battery's condition. It should now last the
same time or more than with the Iriver firmware. With a relatively new
stock battery, you might get 17 hours or so; check the IriverRuntime
wiki page for actual tests.

G'day folks,
Now this might seem like a rather daffy question but I was wondering if
earlier builds of Rockbox for the H300 series could, in any way, affect the
overall (physical) condition of the battery?
As I said it's probably a daft question... :)
Cheers.
