A fiver on it that the person doesn't want to use five, ten times the disk
space on lossless when there's, on cheap consumer headphones, barely a
difference in sound quality ;) (but let's not open that barrel of monkeys
again).

Why not use flac or wavpack instead of MP3? Or if you want lossy vorbis?
