Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2006 14:49:03 -0500 Melissa, Try this, it is likely that these arrowing steps will still work to set your unit to the defaults, and then the menus should talk, assuming that you have English.voice in the .Rockbox/langs folder: press the menu button down arrow 3 times and press Navi button down arrow twice and press navi button you may need to press the navi button once more to confirm. then just left arrow out of the menus. If you have it turned on, turn it off. Now, holding the player near an ear, hold the play button )the top left button on the unit when the unit is oriented with the screen toward the top) down for two seconds. Let the button up after two seconds. If Rockbox is starting, you'll hear the hard disk begin to spin up almost immediately. Rockbox will take around 4-6 seconds to start at which time you can start playing files, etc. If the standard Iriver firmware is starting, you will hear nothing for at least 10 seconds (don't forget to count it) and then you hear the hard disk spin up. The standard Iriver firmware can take as long as 20 seconds to start up and generally needs at least 13 seconds as far as I am aware. Rockbox is much much faster. Also, when you turn off the player, the two firmwares behave differently. Rockbox spins up the disk to save some data when you tell it to shut down. In contrast, the Iriver firmware doesn't make a sound. To the best of my knowledge, you can't tell (without some sight) if the Iriver firmware did actually shut the unit down.
