I'm not sure what the battery life of the Archos units are, but at the
moment the battery life on the Nano's are about 5-10 hours (list correct me
if I'm wrong).
Having an iPod though would open the door to other features, such as an
increased number of codecs the unit is able to play, among other things.
Most of this information is available in the wiki - perhaps take a look at
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WhyRockbox for a brief rundown of
the differences between the players.
