While it can be confusing at times, it's a tremendous help for doing things like changing the pitch so as to speed up a podcast, adding files or folders to the current playlist, or determining the name of the currently playing song. And as you say, if someone gets into a menu by mistake, it's invaluable for getting out. There's simply no way a blind person can use any of these features without voice during music playback.
