Rockbox mail archiveSubject: iPodPatcher giving device erroriPodPatcher giving device error

Date: Sun, 1 Oct 2006 19:53:34 +0100 Hi, I'm trying to install RB on a iPod 4G (grey scale) and I'm having a problem with ipodpatcher. I've used ipodpatcher to identify the physical drive for the iPod (it's 3 on my PC). Then when I run the ipodpatcher to read the current boot partition ("ipodpatcher -r 3 bootpartition.bin") I get the following error: Part Start Sector End Sector Size (MB) Type 0 63 80324 39.2 Empty (0x00) 1 80325 78124094 38107.3 W95 FAT32 (0x0b) [ERR] read in disk_readThe request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. From that it appears that the boot partition is empty? I should explain that I'm blind, and so can't give any feedback on what's on the iPod screen, but when it is disconnected from the PC it does seem to boot OK to the Apple fw/sw. (I say that because the wheel does click). I only want to take the original partition to get the required file to include in the RB partition - I don't have any requirement to be able to boot to the original Apple software ever again. That said, I could use XPlay to put some songs on it to see if it plays OK with the Apple sw, but I don't want to do that unless I have to. Is there somewhere else I can get hold of the Apple firmware file that is needed to be included in the new Rockbox partition file? I've tried looking at the iPodWizard site to find the software to pull the fw out of the Apple updater, but couldn't find anything. If someone sent me the Apple fw from a 40GB 4G grey scale iPod, and I included that in a Rockbox partition, presumably I could just write that to proceed with Rockbox? Any thoughts or suggestions most welcome. Mark Received on 2006-10-01 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
