    Hi Graham

I am a iaudio x5 user and i am visible impered too.
I set up my x5 wiht a daily build of rockbox in august 06. It works very
good and it speaks every day to mč! I can give you some info concerning yur
questions.

a. boot loader
The iaudio x5 boot loader update procedure is as Riche mentined in his
anser. Copy the rockbox iaudio boot laoder in the directory FIRMWARE of your
x5. At the next power up the x5 reads it an copies it to the flash.
It is possible to remove all other directories of the original iaudio
installation form the x5 disc. Just leave the FIRMWARE directory to update
the rockbox boot loader as described above.
To find the iaudio x5 boot loader on the rockbox home page was a littel
confuseing to me. It was not on a page wiht all the other download files. It
was just at a link at the Iaudio installation instruction at the rockbox
documentation page.
(dear rockbox team, could you ölease move it to the download page too)

b. language and voice files for the menu
As I learned in the rockbox documentation ther is a incompatiblity of old
rockbox versions and the current daily build versions in the language and
voice files for the menu. This might be important for you since you had a
archos wiht maybe old version in use.
So download the latest files instead of re-useing your current voice file
for the menu.

c. talk voice clips for the directory and mp3 files
I think you can re-use your existing talk files. I did not read anythink
concerning compatibility issues in the documentation. The rockbox team does
a great job at this topic. The added value of rockbox is still to be able to
migrate our big data collection to new player devices in the future.

I hope my hints help you to hassle fre migration to the x5.

Regards - Ivo

ps: to rockbox developers reading this. Congratulation! You are doing a
great job. Expecially for blind and visible impired people your
softeware and your service oround it is a very big support. Thanks a lot.
