Well that is the problem. I had sighted help and I went into the Iriver
firmware at boot up after rockbox was installed. Rockbox is not speaking at
all. It is running but does not speak.

I can't get to upgrade firmware on iriver firmware becase the firmware is
not letting me into the menus to get to general etc.

I, for example, don't know this fact. There are quite some people on
this list and I don't consider it feasible (at least for me) to keep
track in any way who owns which player.

The iriver firmware isn't voiced as Rockbox is a replacement. I'm not
sure if I understand you correctly, but flashing the player using the
iriver firmware is explained in the iriver manual. If it doesn't work
as expected you should get sighted assistance as no one can tell you
what your player is doing exactly except by looking at it.

Like I already said, you flash it using the "upgrade" procedure
provided by iriver. A Rockbox voice can't voice the iriver firmware so
you'll get voice only with Rockbox up and running which in turns means
the first flashing is a blind flight.
