Hello, Erin and others.

Erin, I only followed steps described in manual.

After entering recording screen, if you're satisfied with your gain
levels, do the following:

1. press 'play' to start / pause recording.

2. press 'rec' if you want your recording to continue in a new file.

3. Press and hold 'play' to stop recording.

4. While recording is stopped, press and hold 'play' to exit recording
screen.

HTh, Sergei.
