Rockbox mail archiveSubject: Memory use on iPod 5g 30GbMemory use on iPod 5g 30Gb

Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2007 10:09:26 +0700 Hi Community I bought this 30Gb video iPod for my wife three days ago. Both the SuSE93 workstation & the Ubuntu 6.06 Laptop where reluctant to work with it. -(too long to explain, mixed issue with New Generation iPod, GtkPod believing it's the old iPod (stolen), change in external HDD!)-- I turned it to rockox right away, just two hours after buy. A breeze in install, config, tweak (She already has her own wallpaper on it). I can even watch the small videos in .mpg taken with my still camera (at very low framerate, I must say). My issue: not enough memory sometimes. Browsing the rockbox web, I found patches & discussions, but I don't know for sure if I need to apply the patch. The boot-up sequence is pretty fast, but it seems rockbox only use 30mb of memory, and runs short for slideshows during music playback (and shows low framerate for these low-res video) ??? The iPod is,a 30Gb Video (5th G? 5.5th G?), the one with the big screen. The build is from last Friday, Jan 19th 2007. One of the issue referred to full use of 64mb (if my model has such) was battery life: I have no opinion on the matter as of now, I'd rather try the patch if it applies to my model. various links on the topic, usually too technical for me (or without clear answers) http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/4964 Does this patch applies to 30Gb as well?: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5472 (very tech I am afraid - I can't compile myself): http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/?getfile=11753 this page doesn't help define my memory: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DeviceChart#Apple_units I've done my homework! Hope I can find more precisions on the list. Cheers Jean-Philippe. -- SuSE93 Linux Kernell 2.6.11.4-21.14 KDE 3.4.0 Kontact 1.1 Kmail 1.8 PHNOM PENH - CAMBODIA
