Just add volume -30 (or the appropriate in-config line) to the fixed.cfg file instead. That file doesn't get changed by the firmware, and you can use it to store whatever fixed settings you'd like. It's basically a list of fixed settings. This required much less code, and allows for easier removal/resetting of fixed settings by simply editing or removing the file.
