You might try going back to the Apple firmware and then reinstalling
Rockbox. Maybe that would help,.
I have attempted to boot in to the apple firmware but the ipod just
froze and I needed to do a menu and select reset.

I have tried booting in to apples firmware by pressing menu then
releasing it then quickly flicking the hold switch in to the hold
position. Once it said loading original firmware I flicked back the hold
switch and the ipod just froze.
I also tried pressing menu flicking the hold switch across to the hold
position and left it in the hold position even when it was saying
loading original firmware but this didn't work either. Finally I tried
holding down menu until it said loading original firmware and released
it but this didn't work either.
Is it possible the apple firmware was removed when I installed rockbox.
It also displays an ipod with an exclamation mark when I connect it to a
computer. Does this mean there could be a hardware problem? Does anyone
know?
All help is greatly appreciated.
Daniel
