Spot on. The English.voice files I tried were too old.
I couldn't puzzle out making use of the voice files where you pointed me. (voices070308.7z for example) I returned to the old familiar voices DL page and was more careful to grab a March 2007 voices daily build file. Works great now.
Special heart felt thanks goes to all you amazing Rockers who have gone the extra mile to make Rockbox incredibly accessible and extraordinary to Blind people.
