Need help with IAudio X5 and rockbox installation

Hi,

I should probably start out by saying, I've never done this before. I've
installed firmware on other things, just not an mp3 player. Heck, I've never
used an mp3 player. I am also totally blind, which is why I'm going with
rockbox.

So, the usual. First thing I did was delete a bunch of folders and
directories I didn't want.. No, I didn't delete the firmware directory. I
did delete ones like the movies directory though. I installed the bootloader
as instructed. Unplugged the USB cable and plugged in the power cord. Let it
do its thing, then plugged the USB back in and unzipped the firmware itself
onto the unit. I also placed the english.voice file in the .rockbox/langs
directory. That done, I unplugged the USB, plugged in the earbuds, turned it
off and back on again and.. Nothing. I was told by a user to press the
record button underneath the power switch to bring up menus which should
talk. That didn't work. Somehow after I'd put the rockbox firmware on, in
the process of trying to get the thing to talk, all those things I'd
deleted, at least the folders, came back on. Thinking that it had somehow
gone back to using the original bootloader, I put the .bin file back int he
firmware directory and flashed it again, this time without deleting
anything. Still no speech, and I've been fighting this thing for two hours!
Any ideas? And no, I don't have a sighted person around to look at it. Any
help would be greatly appreciated, as this is a birthday present for my
roommate who is also blind so she needs it talking. Thanks!
Oh, and the build and voice files were both from the current build section
of the website.
Christy
