Problem recording on Ipod Video 5 gen 60GB

Hello
I attempt to record on Ipod Video 5.5 60 GB using Rockbox built 20073005.
I use a voice file for talking on menus.
First, I use voice feedback to navigate to Recordings menu and start recording.
Then, I unplug the headphones and plug in my 3,5 cable, currently I have no true dock connector like ITalk Pro or TuneTalk.
But I had read somewhere that you could record directly from the 3,5 mm jack.
I plug the 3,5 mm cable into the Ipod jack (the other end is plugged into a DAB radio)
and start Recording from the Rockbox menu.
I am visually impaired so I don't know exactly what my Ipod is doing, but after using Play/Pause to start and stop recording I observe that several files
are generated by Rockbox in the recordings folder. But all files are empty.
So the question is what I'm doing wrong.
As a side note, there is no voice feedback in the recording screen even when recording is paused.
Best Wishes,
Peter Herngaard
