Yes! First you need to have a working compiler. I'm using Windows, so I use
Cygwin - http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CygwinDevelopment
(You could also use VMWare, or Linux - but I've no experience in either.)

Once you can compile your own Rockbox (which really isn't that hard) you can
then apply patches to the source code and compile a modified Rockbox. See
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WorkingWithPatches#Applying_A_Patch
for details.

Or, seeing as I'm impatient, I may commit this patch sooner rather than
later and it'll then be in a current build. I could do with some feedback
from people who record often though...
