As I see it, this beep is there to acknowledge that you have pressed a key so you don't end up double-skipping. But it's not always very responsive although I doubt that can be improved much. In additions, there are already beeps involved in recording, which and I'm NOT involving here; if they are somehow lacking then feel free to put a feature request on Flyspray.
