iPod Nano sound quality:rockbox vs apple

I've been using rockbox on my nano as soon as I got it, which is almost
a year, so I really didn't use the Apple firmware too much. I've really
enjoyed all the benefits rockbox provides (crossfade is my favorite),
but it's been getting very discouraging for me to run out of battery
juice so quickly. o last week I decided to go back to the Apple side. I
was quite surprised to hear the sound difference between the 2 FWs. I've
done a few A/B comparisons with many different types of mp3 files, but
I've come to the conclusion (sadly) that the sound quality on the Apple
is superior to rockbox.

I've changed the EQ settings on rockbox in different ways, but to me
(and I know this VERY subjective) Apple still sounds better.

Does anyone else feel this way? Has anyone come up with a way to make
EQ changes on rockbox that at least matches the sound quality of Apple
FW? I hope so, because once the battery issues are improved on rockbox,
I would love to go back to using it, but if Apple sounds better, I'll
probably be bouncing back and forth (which isn't a bad thing either, but
I'd rather use rockbox).

Thanks for listening :-)
